Description of the position: We’re looking for a Network Engineer for its global operations in Madrid. He/She will play a critical role in managing and optimizing company’s network infrastructure. The primary goal is to ensure that network connectivity is reliable, secure, and high-performance across all offices and services. This role involves designing and overseeing network topology and hardware, configuring and managing on-premises network devices, implementing Quality of Service (QoS) policies and VLAN segmentation, and establishing connectivity redundancy to prevent downtime. All responsibilities are to be carried out in alignment with ITIL best practices and other relevant industry frameworks, ensuring that network services are delivered in a structured and efficient manner. The specific terms and conditions of employment will be set out in a formal contract, in accordance with the laws of Spain.
Key Responsibilities and tasks:- Manage Network Architecture & Topology Design: Plan and develop the network’s structure (LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi) to meet business needs, ensuring the design is scalable, secure, and well-documented.
- Network Hardware Management: Install, configure, and maintain network devices (switches, routers, firewalls, access points) in the office and data center, keeping all equipment updated and running optimally.
- Performance Monitoring & QoS: Use network monitoring tools to track performance and reliability. Implement Quality of Service policies to prioritize critical traffic, so important data (e.g., voice or video) isn’t delayed or dropped during congestion.
- VLAN Configuration & Segmentation: Set up and manage Virtual LANs to segment network traffic for security and efficiency. Ensure different types of traffic (e.g., workplace, operations, guests) are isolated appropriately and adjust segmentation as the company grows.
- Connectivity Redundancy: Implement redundant links and failover paths (e.g., secondary ISP connections, link aggregation) to achieve high availability ensuring the network stays up even if a primary connection or device fails.
- ITIL-Compliant Operations: Follow ITIL processes for network changes and incidents. Use change management for network updates (planning, approval, communication) to minimize disruptions, and incident management to resolve outages systematically and document lessons learned.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with other IT teams (cloud, security, workplace) and vendors/partners. Provide network support in projects (such as new software rollouts or office expansions) and ensure external providers meet agreed service levels.
- Documentation & Policy: Maintain up-to-date network documentation, including diagrams, device configurations, IP address inventories, and failover procedures. Develop standard operating procedures for routine tasks and troubleshooting, to facilitate knowledge sharing and consistency.
- Continuous Improvement: Regularly evaluate the network setup for improvements. Stay informed about new networking technologies (SD-WAN, Wi-Fi 6/7, automation tools) and propose upgrades or optimizations that enhance performance, security, or efficiency.
- Management Advisement: Provide recommendations to IT leadership on network capacity planning, infrastructure investments, and design improvements. Translate technical network metrics into business terms to support informed decision-making.
- Security & Compliance: Work with the information security team to safeguard the network (ensure firewall rules, VPN access, and intrusion prevention systems are effective). Ensure all network activities comply with company policies and relevant regulations (e.g., data protection laws).
Working Experience:- 3–5 years of hands-on experience in network engineering or a similar role. This includes experience in designing and managing enterprise networks (LAN/WAN), configuring network equipment.
Tech skills: - Troubleshooting: Excellent at diagnosing and resolving complex network issues quickly and under pressure. Able to methodically find root causes and implement effective fixes.
- Network Technology Expertise: Strong understanding of networking protocols and systems. Proficient with TCP/IP, routing (e.g., OSPF, BGP) and switching (VLANs, STP), and experienced with enterprise network hardware (routers, switches, firewalls, APs).
- Network Security: Hands-on experience with network security devices and concepts. Preferred: experience managing Palo Alto Networks firewalls and familiarity with SASE solutions (like Prisma Access) in an enterprise setting.
- ITIL & Best Practices: Knowledge of ITIL or similar IT service management frameworks. Capable of following structured change control, incident response, and documentation practices to maintain a high-quality, reliable network service.
Soft skills:- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Global Mindset: Experience working in a multi-national environment or on international teams.
- Team Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills and a team-oriented attitude. Able to collaborate with colleagues across IT and communicate effectively with vendors or partners to achieve network goals.
- Communication: Clear and concise communicator, both verbally and in writing. Able to document network configurations and plans and explain technical issues in simple terms to non-technical stakeholders when necessary.
- Continuous Learning: Eagerness to stay updated on networking trends and emerging technologies.
Education and Training:- Bachelor's Degree or vocational training qualification: In information technology, telecommunications or a related field.
Certifications: Relevant certifications are a plus. Languages:- Spanish: Very good Business Spanish required (excellent communication skills). B2 level.
